Zapateado Band (on-line performance)

The program is made up of: Zapateado, Malagueña, Sevillanas, Jaleos and more, featuring three artists from different disciplines (dance, guitar, and trombone). The trombone presents a colourful element similar to cante and imposes a new challenge within flamenco.
Meet the artists:
Sydney Cocharane: Flamenco Dancer, from Vancouver, Canada. Her musical sensibilities and expressions draw on her early years training in classical piano, voice, acting, and ballet. She was accepted into the Vancouver Film School where she studied performance for film. In 2010 she began her flamenco training at Karen Flamenco Dance Studio. Her studies have taken her to Spain, to learn from masterful flamenco teachers such as Pastora and Israel Galvan, Cristina Benitez, Isabel Bayon, Concha Jareño, others.
Josue Tacoronte: Guitarist, composer, and musical arranger was born in Havana, Cuba. He has given several guitar recitals in different concert halls and has shared the stage with main artists of different backgrounds and genres. He is an active member of the National Union of Writers and Artist of Cuba, Alhambra Guitars, SGAE, Royal Classics Strings. Winner of 5 classical guitar awards in Havana, Cuba and winner of Cubadisco 2013 with his CD “Brouwer Flamenco” in the Soloist in concert category.
Jeremy Berkman: Trombone. After Graduating from the Juilliard School with a masters degree, Jeremy spent six months at the Banff Centers as a resident artist where he collaborated with musicians, filmmakers and dancers. Always inspired by dance, Jeremy’s early gigs in Vancouver included as a highlight a Western Canadian tour of Prokofiev’s Romeo y Julieta with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Co-founder of Vancouver’s Turning Point Ensemble.
